Soapstone - East Coast Installers

Can any soapstone owners comment on their installation experience with any of these East Coast distributors: Vermont Soapstone, Green Mountain and Texeira? We have samples from all three, but since SS is only starting to be more widely used in our immediate area, we only have installation feedback on Vermont Soapstone, which is very positive. We are planning ss for all our countertops and do not plan to DIY the project.

Thanks, janedibber. Not certain if this means you used them yourself or not. We are just trying to get a feel for which fabricators do a good install job.

We've got Mount Holly, Ice Flower, Cobra, Ipanema, Santa Rita, Piracema and Gr. Mtn original samples for comparison. DH likes Mount Holly best, followed by GM original. I like those both and also Cobra, followed by Piracema.
Since our taste cuts across several of the fabricator supplies, we thought we should see if there are any compliments or complaints about the installation process itself.

We used Vermont Marble, Granite, Slate & Soapstone Co. and were very satisfied with both the service and end product. Paul, the owner, did the templating and installation. Here's their web site: Vermon M,G,S&S

The particular soapstone we have is called Verde Vennatino. It was a limited available soapstone from Brazil that Vermont M,G,S and S had/have which is not shown on their web site. Check out our kitchen web site for a picture of it.

Good luck,

Scott

I should have looked at Vermont M,G,S&S's web site closer. They now have Verde Venatino listed on it. My bad.

Scott: Many thanks for sharing your soapstone info and pictures. Your kitchen is totally charming! Not only are the Verde Vennatino counters beautiful, you've added so many wonderful elements to create a warm, welcoming room. Especially love your use of beadboard on the ceiling and high wainscotting on the walls. Neat pendant lights and window treatment as well. I ran across this ss fabricator months ago on-line, but had forgotten about them. Thanks for giving us another option.

We used Texeira and had Cobra installed along with a custom size SS farm sink. This was done last December. No problems and their installers did a great job.

Rughooker: Do your Cobra countertops have a high shine? We just received a small sample and it has a shine, compared to the more matt finish of the other samples. Didn't know if this is a particular "finishing" process result, or whether all Cobra looks polished. It reminds us of granite. Our piece looks uniformly dark and free of veining.
